social networking
"Social" here refers to communities on the net. Now you can hold tupperware parties all over planet Earth, at least where there's internet access! The good news is you don't need to carry your merchandise and commute endlessly. The plot is to tap on "social media" avenues on the web and give your users the option to reference your site and share it with others. Let the party begin!
Users recommending others to visit your site, buy your products or use your services is arguably the best affirmation you can hope to have for your online business. Bottomline, make it convenient for users to make these recommendations! You will see links like "refer-a-friend", "send this to a friend", "tell a friend" on webpages which do exactly that. Now, there's social bookmarking to tap on too.
Bookmarking icons that link to social sites (e.g. Digg, Technorati, Del.icio.us, etc.) do the same. Visitors can bookmark your site or webpage on those sites and share the link with friends or other members of that community - you can appreciate the viral effect that has! That's the method, but how can you in practice get visitors to bookmark your site?
Again, provide them with the tools. Put those little icons on your page with the appropriate links. This presumes you have done your ibranding bit, spruced up your content, worked the "feel" factor for your site and have a marketing plan in place. Add "text appeal" (meaning the right words), and you leave no room for your visitors to not bookmark your site! Ask yourself if you would - if not, why? Solve the problem and check your stats to see if your bookmark icons have been clicked on lately! [ ... more on social media - click here].
